Joan (Clevenger) Hunter

          Funeral services for Joan Clevenger Landrum Hunter, 81, of Alto will be Tuesday, February 17, 2026 at 2 PM in  the A. Frank Smith Methodist Church in Alto with Rev John Cogdill officiating. The family will receive visitors from 1 PM to 2 PM at the church before services. Burial will follow at Old Palestine Cemetery near Alto. Joan passed away Friday February 13, 2026 in Rusk. She was born October 21, 1944 in Jacksonville, Texas to R.E. Clevenger and Ruby Belle James Clevenger. She lived in Alto for most of her life and was a member of the A. Frank Smith Methodist Church. Joan graduated from Alto High School in 1962 and went to Houston for awhile to attend business college. She worked for many years and retired from the Indian Mound Nursery  for the Texas Forest Service affiliated with Texas A&M University. Joan loved having a good time with friends and family and traveling.She was preceded in death by her parents R.E. & Ruby Clevenger and husband Lester F. Hunter. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Ginny Landrum Spurgers and Tommy Spurgers of Alto as well as many other relatives and friends. The family wants to thank the Arbors Care Center in Rusk and Heart to Heart hospice for their loving care.
